My family has always had dogs and my first was a Boxer named Chip; I was 7 at the time. This was followed by a pair of Dobermans in my twenties, and then rescues dogs; a Greyhound and then an Australian terrier, the Terrier bug had got me! After a number of years following the Wire Fox breed and visiting Crufts and Discover dogs, I finally purchased my bitch, Rosie and joined the Wire Fox Terrier Association 5 years ago.
We have been lucky enough to have had some success showing the breed at Open and Championship Shows and have been supporting companion and fund raising shows where both my children started to show. My children, Connor and Paris, now compete in junior handling regularly, making the semi-finals at Richmond of the Junior Handling Association handler of the year competition for the past 2 years. They are also members of the Young Kennel Club and attend the YKC summer training camp sponsored by the Kennel Club, as well as competing in JHA & YKC handling classes at open and championship shows regularly.
We all attend the weekly Detling Caine Society ringcraft training club, where I have won the monthly match night competition, 4 times, and taking top dog of the year in 2011. Through this society I have attended and passed the Kennel club judging courses on, Points of the dog, Confirmation & movement, Rules and regulations for show judges. I have also taken part in adult handling courses run by Marina Scott (of Dog World & UK/World junior champion) and Helena Hutchings (JHA finals judge in 2013 & UK/Europe junior champion). I regularly compete in handling competitions, making the UK finals of Adult Handler of the year in 2013. I have also had the privilege to serve on the committee of the Aylesford & district dog training society.
Having worked in further education all my life, starting as a lecturer and now as a head of department at a college in central London, it’s in my nature to help, support and assist individuals in any way that I can. Having attended and helped at the WFTA grooming seminar, I wish to continue in helping and supporting the WFTA in any way that is possible. In 2013 I was elected to serve on the committee of the WFTA and judge Wires at open shows.
